Olympia man arrested after crashing stolen car

A 21-year-old Olympia man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly driving a stolen car into a fence and running from police, according to the Olympia Police Department.

Two officers spotted the man driving a stolen 1987 maroon-colored Corvette on 18th Avenue SE at abou 7:30 p.m. The officers began following him, and turned on their lights and sirens as the suspect turned onto Humphrey Street, a dead-end road, said department spokeswoman Laura Wohl.

The suspect drove up a driveway, through a backyard, eventually crashing into a fence. He then allegedly ran from the scene, and was eventually caught by a K9 unit on the 1900 block of Allen Street.

The man was taken to Providence St. Peter’s Hospital to be checked for injuries, but he only had minor scratches from blackberry bushed, Wohl said.

The suspect also had a passenger who stayed in the car when the suspect fled. The passenger was detained during the investigation and later released, Wohl said.
