A 43-year-old man was arrested near Rainier Thursday night after eluding police and crashing a car into a fence, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy saw a car speeding on Military Road near Rainier Road at 6:11 p.m. and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver allegedly accelorated to 80 mph in a 35 mph zone, turned onto Stedman Road and crashed into a fence, according to Lt. Cliff Ziesemer.
The man tried to run away and allegedly threw a clear plastic bag into the bushes. The deputy caught the man with the help of someone who witnessed the crash. The man gave the deputy a false name when he was arrested, Zeisemer said.
The man was booked into the Thurston County Jail for eluding, possession of a controlled substance and identity theft. The man was also wanted for assault and driving with a suspended license, Ziesemer said.
