Graham man pleads not guilty to raping 13-year-old girl in Lacey

A 22-year-old Graham man accused of having sex with a 13-year-old Oregon girl pleaded not guilty to second-degree child rape in Thurston County Superior Court on Tuesday morning.

Kevin A. Burdett was arrested Nov. 19, and later released from the Thurston County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Court documents give the following account of the circumstances leading to his arrest:

The Lacey Police Department began investigating Burdett in June after the girl’s legal guardians reported that the two met on the internet, then met up to have sex. The girl lives with her legal guardians in Oregon, but had met with Burdett during a week-long visit with her biological parents in Lacey.

The girl told officers that she met Burdett on, and that he told her that he was 16. The two also communicated by text message, and officers were able to identify Burdett using his phone number.

After his arrest, Burdett admitted to having sex with the girl, and said he believed she was 15 or 16.
