Shelton man dies in Mason County shooting

A Shelton man died Tuesday night after being shot during an altercation, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was identified as 51-year-old Scott T. Jeffries, and the shooter was identified as an 80-year-old Shelton man.

Deputies responded to the scene, at the 100 block of West Chappell Crossing six miles west of Shelton, at about 7 p.m. after a man called 911 and reported that he shot an acquaintance who had attacked him, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim was found inside a home, and the suspect willingly turned himself in.

The 80-year-old man was booked into the Mason County Jail and was scheduled to appear in court sometime Wednesday, according to the sheriff’s office.
