A Shelton man died Tuesday night after being shot during an altercation, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was identified as 51-year-old Scott T. Jeffries, and the alleged shooter was identified as an 80-year-old Charles L. Anderson of Shelton.

Deputies responded to the scene, a home in the 100 block of West Chappell Crossing, six miles west of Shelton, at about 7 p.m. after a man called 911 and reported that he shot an acquaintance who had attacked him, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jeffries was found inside the home, and Anderson turned himself in.

Anderson appeared in Mason County Superior court on Wednesday, and bail was set at $10,000. He hasn’t yet been charged, according to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutor’s office has 72 hours from Anderson’s arrest to file charges.
