Bail was set at $250,000 for an armed robbery suspect accused of shooting his victim Sunday (Dec. 21) in Thurston County.
Jeremiah Joshua Taufetee, 21, appeared Monday in Thurston County Superior Court and faces one charge of first-degree robbery with a firearm. His arraignment is set for Jan. 6.
At 4:41 a.m. Sunday, Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call about an adult male with a gunshot wound to the thigh. According to court documents, the victim was giving a 17-year-old female a ride home from a party when she told him to pull over near Deerbrush Drive Southeast and Seventh Court Southeast near Lacey.
Once the vehicle was stopped, a male approached the driver’s side door and demanded the victim’s money, then shot the victim once in the leg when he refused, according to documents. The armed suspect allegedly took about $600 in cash from the victim, and the female passenger removed the keys from the ignition and also fled, documents show.
The victim was taken to Providence St. Peter Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives contacted AT&T for help tracking a cellphone that was being used by the suspects. The detectives were parked at an intersection near the crime scene when Taufetee, the female juvenile and an unknown male walked past their vehicle, according to documents.
Taufetee was arrested while the other two suspects fled and was carrying $1,800 cash; the female juvenile was later apprehended hiding at a residence, according to documents.
At Monday’s court hearing, deputy prosecuting attorney Joseph Wheeler said Taufetee has an extensive criminal history that includes charges involving assault, firearms and escape. Taufetee is a suspect in another robbery that took place earlier this month, said Wheeler, adding that the suspect is looking at 15 to 20 years in prison if convicted in the new case.
The female juvenile also appeared in court Monday, and her bail was set at $100,000, according to prosecutors.
The third suspect is still at large and has been described as a white male in his early 20s, 5 feet 10 inches with a medium build, according to the sheriff’s office. Anyone with information is asked to call 360-754-4395.
