The man accused of taking a car and two children from a Lacey parking lot was booked into the Thurston County Jail Friday morning, according to the Lacey Police Department.
Cmdr. Jim Mack said the police department is recommending a theft of a motor vehicle charge. The suspect will likely appear in court on Monday, March 23.
Mack said it’s unlikely that the mother who left the children in the car will face charges.
The Lacey Police Department gave the following account of his arrest:
The car and children were taken from the parking lot of Paramount Christian Academy Wednesday morning while the children’s mother was dropping off a third child at a before-school childcare program. Lacey police responded to the scene at about 7 a.m., and the car and children were found a few blocks away at about 7:40 a.m. The suspect had fled on foot with a backpack from the car.
The suspect boarded an Amtrak train and traveled to Portland. He was arrested by Portland police on an outstanding warrant, and identified as the suspect in the Lacey car theft case.
Lacey detectives traveled to Portland to interview the suspect and bring him back to Thurston County.
