Forensic evidence links Mason County man to Olympia rape case

A 53-year-old Mason County resident was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of second-degree rape and first-degree burglary, according to the Olympia Police Department.

Detectives began investigating the case on Dec. 18 after a woman reported that she had woken up to a man sexually assaulting her. Police spent the next four months following leads and establishing a person of interest.

The suspect was linked to the case by forensic evidence. He was arrested and booked into the Thurston County Jail.

He is expected to appear in Thurston County Superior Court on Thursday. The Olympian doesn’t release the names of suspects until they have appeared in court.
