A Thurston County man was arrested for assault by watercraft after two people were injured in a late-night boat crash.
In court Monday, bail was set at $7,500 for Brent Portch, 37, who has prior DUI convictions from 1996 and 2010, according to the court. His arraignment was set for May 26.
The incident occurred about 11 p.m. Friday on Lake Lawrence, just south of Yelm in southeast Thurston County.
Three occupants of a 16-foot aluminum fishing boat had been drinking and went for a boat ride. Portsch, who was operating, crashed the boat into a dock on the lake’s north side, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. The boat capsized after the crash.
One passenger was thrown into the water. A 43-year-old female from the Roy area suffered a leg fracture and was transported to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office is reminding the public that it is illegal to operate a boat while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
