Oregon cyclist dies in race near Auburn

An Oregon State University student was killed Saturday after an accident in a collegiate bicyclist race near Auburn, according to USA Cycling.

Randall Fox, 29, of Albany, Oregon, lost control of his bicycle while going downhill near Flaming Geyser State Park and crashed into a guardrail, suffering critical injuries, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Fox was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died.

The races were organized by the University of Washington’s cycling club.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Randall Fox, who died Saturday in Washington while competing for Oregon State,” a USA Cycling Facebook post said.

“His untimely and tragic death is heartbreaking, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates.”

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident, spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West wrote in a news release Monday
