The portion of US-12 that runs through Grand Mound in south Thurston County will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, May 2 and May 3, for construction. Drivers in the area can expect detours that will prevent people from being in a work zone.

The affected area will be Pecan Street Southwest to Old Highway 99. Crews will be paving a new roundabout intersection at Sargent Road. The road will be closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. both days.

According to a news release from Thurston County, the roundabout creates a north-south crossing of US-12, something the area has needed to improve traffic flow. It also will allow emergency response vehicles to have safer route alternatives during road maintenance.

For more information about the construction project in the Grand Mound and Rochester areas, visit the county’s public works website.
