Bingo operator donates $10K to help wounded policeman

A local bingo operator has donated $10,000 to a fund benefiting wounded Anchorage police officer Jason Allen, Mayor Dan Sullivan said Wednesday. The son and brother of Jack Powers, owner of Tudor Road Bingo, delivered the check during Sullivan's weekly news conference.

"We really appreciate Jack and all of his work helping non-profits around the community, but this is special," Sullivan said.

Allen, 47, was wounded several times in a drive-by shooting in Fairview early Saturday morning. Sullivan and police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker said he is recovering.
