Two men were found dead in a pickup in East Anchorage this morning in what police say is a double homicide.
Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots, and police say they're looking for a suspect who fled the area in a car.
The car was driven by a second person who sped away from the scene after the shooting, witnesses said.
"He stopped, let the guy get into the car and then backed up some more and took off down Reka (Drive)," said neighbor Eric Gaiser, who was awakened by his wife after the first few shots. His cell phone said it was 4:13 a.m.
The shooting happened on the 1600 block of Russian Jack Drive, north of East High School, a working-class residential neighborhood.
Gaiser said this is the fourth time he's heard gunshots since he moved in two years ago.
"Several witnesses reported seeing a black male adult flee the area in a waiting vehicle. The vehicle is described as an older-model Chrysler- or Dodge-style four-door sedan with a sport back end," according to police spokeswoman Marlen Lammers.
Police arrived to find two men, apparently shot to death, inside a black, four-door Honda truck parked near a garbage bin.
Dozens of yellow evidence markers surrounded the Honda truck this morning. The two victims -- a pair of young men -- remained inside as a tow truck arrived to remove the pickup.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 786-8900.
