The Senate voted to approve voter registrations as close as eight days before Election Day.
By a 32-17 vote, the Senate approved Substitute Senate Bill 5270 and sent it to Gregoire for signing.
Under current law, existing voters can change registrations up to 29 days before an election, and new voters can register in person up to 15 days before an election. The bill moves the in-person registration deadline to eight days before an election.
South Sound lawmakers voting in favor were Sens. Karen Fraser, D- Thurston County; Tim Sheldon, D-Potlatch; and Sen. Dan Swecker, R-Rochester. Voting against was Sen. Randi Becker, R-Eatonville.
