State Rep. Brendan Williams, D-Olympia, received a legislator of the year award Friday from the Autism Society of Washington during its Best in the Northwest Autism Conference.
Williams said in an e-mail that he had introduced a bill, House Bill 1210, to require equal coverage by health insurers for autism conditions. The measure did not get a hearing.
“Insurance coverage for those with autism is both a health care challenge and a civil rights issue,” Williams wrote. “We’ll keep fighting until we achieve the same rights that mental health advocates finally won in 2005.”
