The Department of Licensing will begin issuing a different configuration of license-plate numbers in November or early December.
Standard-issue numbers currently consist of three numbers, followed by three letters. The new plates will have a number, a letter, two numbers and three letters.
The seven-character configuration is similar to one used in California and was chosen because it offers more than 350,000,000 possible combinations and doesn’t conflict with any plates already issued, according to the DOL.
