State school association elects new president

Mukilteo School Director Kevin Laverty has been elected president of the Washington State School Directors' Association, known as WSSDA.

The organization is made up of the state’s 1,477 locally elected school board members.

As WSSDA president for 2010, Laverty represents the association and communicates its positions to legislators, members of Congress, the State Board of Education, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the U.S. Department of Education.

Laverty has been a member of the Mukilteo School Board for 10 years and has served as the board president, vice president and legislative representative.
