SEATTLE: State spends $125,000 on land in Mount Si area

The state has bought a final piece of private property in the Mount Si natural area to protect from development.

The 10.3-acre piece was the last private parcel in the area that had been surrounded by public land.

Supporters say the purchase allows the entire 12,000-acre conservation area in east King County to be reserved for environmental education and public use.

The state Department of Natural Resources paid $125,000 for the property, a federal mining claim.
