The deadline to nominate a person for the Washington State Medal of Valor has been extended until Oct. 29.
The medal recognizes people who have risked their lives or safety to save – or try to save – another person’s life, according to a news release. Medals will be awarded during a joint session of the upcoming legislative session; they can’t be awarded to police officers, firefighters or other first-responders.
To submit an application, go to www.sos.wa.gov/medals/valor.aspx. They can be mailed to Office of Secretary of State, Medal of Valor Program, P.O. Box 40220, Olympia, WA 98504-0220.
