Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed and Attorney General Rob McKenna say they want to help Washington residents avoid bad charity deals this holiday season.
They visited the AARP Fraud Fighter Call Center in Seattle on Friday to release the state’s 2010 report on commercial fundraisers. The report contains information about charities that pay companies to fundraise for them and what percentage of charitable gifts go to the fundraisers.
Reed said he encourages people to research charities by going to www.sos.wa.gov/charities or calling his office before making a decision to give. McKenna said he encourages people to contact his office if they feel they are the victim of fraud.
