Swecker appointed top Republican on committee

State Sen. Dan Swecker, R-Rochester, has been named the lead Republican on the Government Operations, Tribal Relations and Elections Committee for the 2011 and 2012 legislative sessions, according to a news release from his office.

According to the release, Swecker will coordinate with the committee chair and help shape his caucus’s policy positions in areas such as election procedures and land-use planning. He previously served as the ranking Republican on the Transportation Committee and stepped aside to focus on his role as vice caucus chairman for the Senate Republicans.

The 2011 Legislative session begins Jan. 10.
