A bill that would have given Tenino sandstone that honor missed the cutoff date for getting pulled out of the Senate Rules Committee to be debated on the floor.
The quarry town in south Thurston County still has a working sandstone operation. Sandstone was heavily used for construction in the town and across the state and nation.
The proposal to make Tenino sandstone the state rock was pushed by a group of third- to seventh-graders in Tenino’s Hi-Cap program .
