FRIDAY IN THE LEGISLATURE
House Bill 2143, legislation that would prohibit anyone from producing genetically modified finfish in state waters and require the labeling of genetically engineered salmon or salmon products, will be heard in the House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources. Rep. Cary Condotta, R-East Wenatchee, sponsored the legislation, which will be heard at 1:30 p.m. in Hearing Room C of the John L. O’Brien Building.
The Senate Law and Justice Committee will take testimony on Senate Bill 6024, legislation that aims to prevent flash mob thefts. Sponsored by Rep. Steve O’Ban, R-Tacoma, the legislation will be heard at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room 2 of the John. A. Cherberg Building.
MONDAY IN THE LEGISLATURE
The House Government Accountability and Oversight Committee will hold a public hearing for House Bill 2280. The legislation would allow the state lottery to give away a certain number of scratch tickets for free. The bill, by Rep. Cary Condotta, R-East Wenatchee, will be heard at 1:30 p.m. in Hearing Room E of the John L. O’Brien Building.
In the Senate, the Commerce and Labor Committee will hear Senate Bill 6065. The legislation, introduced by Sen. Curtis King, R-Yakima, would prohibit those under the age of 18 from using ultraviolet tanning beds.
ELSEWHERE ON CAMPUS
Members of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America will lobby legislators Friday, asking for stricter gun laws. They will rally at 9:30 a.m. on the north steps of the Legislative Building in support of background checks for private and online gun sales and gun shows.
The annual Latino/a Educational Achievement Project (LEAP) Legislative Day will bring more than 500 people to the Capitol Campus, where they will lobby legislators about issues facing the Latino community. Gov. Jay Inslee will address the group in the Legislative Building Rotunda at 12:20 p.m.
