Under the Dome: Today is Wednesday, Feb. 12, the 31st day of the 60-day legislative session.

WEDNESDAY IN THE LEGISLATURE

The House Business and Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on Senate Bill 5996, to create licensing rules for online learning of cosmetology and barbering. The hearing on the bill sponsored by Sen. Jan Angel, R-Port Orchard, is set for 9:30 a.m. in Room D of the O’Brien Building.

The House Higher Education Committee is scheduled to hold a work session on campus security, student debt and mental health services on college campuses. The committee meets at 8 a.m. in Hearing Room A of the O’Brien Building.

A work session will be in the House Public Safety Committee at 8:30 a.m. to hear about ensuring successful re-entry of ex-offenders into society while reducing recidivism. The hearing will take place in Room B of the O’Brien Building.

THURSDAY IN THE LEGISLATURE

The House Early Learning and Human Services Committee will hold a public hearing on House Bill 2737 at 9 a.m. Sponsored by Rep. Ruth Kagi, D-Lake Forest Park, the legislation would require stores that sell or serve alcohol to post a warning that consumption of alcohol during pregnancy can cause birth defects in an unborn child.

The meeting will be held in Room C of the O’Brien Building.

ELSEWHERE ON CAMPUS

Gov. Inslee will speak to advocates from the Washington State Association of Head Start and ECEAP on the north steps of the Legislative Building at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Inslee is expected to address early learning spending in his budget request.

Advocates for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will lobby lawmakers Wednesday. Members of the organization want legislators to pass a proposal to reduce access to tanning beds and restore funding to the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program.

Members of AARP Washington will hear from Speaker of the House Frank Chopp and other lawmakers Wednesday at their annual legislative luncheon in the Columbia Room of the Legislative Building. DOT Secretary Lynn Peterson and Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler will also speak to AARP members.
