Senate candidate Mark Miloscia: False endorsement a typo

A false endorsement claimed on a mail advertisement for Federal Way state Senate candidate Mark Miloscia is a typographical error, his campaign says.

A list of Miloscia supporters on the flyer includes “So. King Fire & Rescue.”

The Fire Department itself cannot endorse candidates, and a union of firefighters who work there, South King County Professional Firefighters Local 2024, didn’t endorse Republican Miloscia. The group endorsed his opponent, Democrat Shari Song.

Firefighters and Song pointed out the inaccuracy.

“It was a typo,” said Miloscia’s campaign manager, Keith Schipper. The list correctly included a member of the Fire Department’s board of commissioners, Bill Gates, and somehow the agency’s name was duplicated on another line next to a union of public school employees, Schipper said. “It’s obviously different from the rest of the format.”

He said Miloscia has apologized to the firefighters union.

A former state representative who switched parties to run for departing Sen. Tracey Eide’s seat, Miloscia has lost much of the strong union support he had as a Democrat. The firefighters group supported him in past campaigns.
