TUMWATER – Republican Pat Beehler reported several endorsements for his campaign for Thurston County commissioner, including former Democratic commissioner Diane Oberquell.
Dan Venable, a Democrat who also ran against Democratic appointee Karen Valenzuela and lost in the Aug. 18 primary, also endorsed Beehler, a longtime professional surveyor from Tumwater. Beehler reported other endorsements by former Republican county commissioners Judy Wilson and Dick Nichols; Republican Gary Edwards, the former sheriff; Olympia port commissioners Paul Telford and Bill McGregor; former port commissioner Bob VanSchoorl; Tenino mayor Ken Jones; Lacey Councilwoman Ann Burgmann; and state Rep. Gary Alexander.
Valenzuela, a former Tumwater council member, was appointed in January by Gov. Chris Gregoire to fill the vacancy left when Democrat Bob MacLeod retired for health reasons. Valenzuela drew 46 percent of the primary vote, followed by Beehler at about 36 percent and Venable at 18 percent.
