Benton City man wins $120,000 in lottery

A Benton City man has his eye on a new fishing boat after winning $120,000 in the state lottery.

Marty Peck won the Hit 5 on June 23 on a lottery machine at Just A Minute Mart in Benton City, and said he had to look twice when the winner notification popped up on the screen.

“I’m so used to seeing ‘Sorry, not a winner,’ that when I saw all of the zeros all I could say was, ‘Oh, my!’ ” he said in a news release from the Lottery Commission.

The first person he told was his business partner. “Well, I had to tell him I wasn’t coming in to work that day! I’m still dazed and confused,” he said.

He told Lottery officials that he plans to use his winnings on his favorite hobby — fishing. He fishes the Columbia and Snake rivers, and has several dream boats in mind.

The store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,200 selling bonus.

Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery provide grants to college students statewide.
