I am distressed by the way factory-farmed animals are treated, often just as bodies meant merely to be “used” for human benefit. My friends, I implore, does anyone really benefit in the long run from practicing cruelty?
Though I personally choose to abstain from animal products, I’m not asking you to do the same (though if you’d like to, please do join me!). I’m simply advocating for more compassion and kindness in the way we treat our fellow animals. I respect folks who seek out humanely-raised meat and dairy. Whether we choose to eat these products or not, we can all urge our legislators to enact more stringent animal welfare laws.
It’s also true that many people are choosing to eat a more plant-centric diet for their personal health, as well as that of Earth and her creatures. Reducing our consumption of animal foods any amount will boost our immunity against chronic disease, while lessening our carbon footprint (meat and dairy use huge quantities of fossil fuel to produce, compared to their tasty plant equivalents).
Friends, let us eat more peas, less cheese, more beans, fewer beings! Our fellow creatures are counting on us. Thank you.
