One of the most recognized images in American society is the stop sign. Funny then, that almost no one seems to heed it.
Not in my neighborhood, anyway, which is full of kids walking to school, moms walking babies in strollers, and families riding bikes.
A refresher for you careless drivers: Stop means stop.
Stop does not mean tap your brakes lightly, roll through slowly, or just go as if you didn’t see it. You are risking far more than a ticket with this dangerous practice.

But if city officials want to raise some dough, I invite you to park a police cruiser near a residential street stop sign (South Capitol neighborhood is a good candidate) for an afternoon.
You’d be a welcome sight to many of us who live here and want to keep our streets safe.
