I want to thank Joe Schaffer and Michael Riley for their letters to the editor.
Recently, Nobel Economics winner, Joseph Stiglitz, said the top 1 percent of Americans now get a fourth of the nation’s income and control 40 percent of wealth. 25 years ago, it was 12 percent and 33 percent. While the rich are astronomically richer – 18 percent over one decade – the middle class saw incomes fall. The rich live here too and should pay their fair share without using loopholes.
I’ve written to Sen. Dan Swecker and Rep. Richard DeBolt asking them for comment on the GOP war on the middle class. After several weeks, I’ve heard no response.
How far the GOP has fallen since Teddy Roosevelt, a champion of conservation and a progressive. FDR applied strong banking and Wall Street reforms, until Reagan fired Paul Volcker who believed in solid regulations. Alan Greenspan allowed deregulation of the industry.
The CFTC is allowing Wall Street speculators to legally gamble, with our money, not their money. They don’t lose. They are legally stealing our money at the gas pump.
When will hard-working Republicans realize they’re being duped and vote out supporters of the rich. The working class must put an end to the Republican takeover of our country for the rich and corporations. We must vote out those who are giving our country to the rich and the corporations. All they give us is misinformation and meaningless rhetoric.
