I am writing this letter enthusiastically and in strong support of the Tanasse multi-use building on State Street that has been approved by the city and is now being appealed by the Bigelow Neighborhood Association. For years we have known that Olympia is in need of a thriving downtown where people will live, shop, eat and work.
The Tanasse family's unique vision for a modern multi-use building that would house John's chiropractic business as well as living space for his family and in-laws seems to be an ideal fit for the mixed-use zoning of this near-downtown location.
I know the Tanasse family to be entirely civic-minded. They give generously of their time, talents and resources to many organizations including schools, Olympia Family Theater, Olympia Area Rowing club and many others. As a family, their values are beyond reproach. This is a one-in-a-million local family who are excited to be a part of the solution to help Olympia thrive, not an impersonal corporation wanting to bully its way into Olympia with no concern for their neighbors.
Their project has been approved by the city and unanimously endorsed by the Design Review Board. I hope you will join me and others who see this courageous decision by the Tanasse family as a huge gift to help re-vitalize a downtown in need. This project needs to move forward and not be burdened by further delays.
