Thank you for publishing Amelia Dickson’s article about suicides from the Capitol Bridge. However, neither your front page headline, nor the first 27 inches of Dickson’s story are clear that the deaths are from jumping, not falling. Only near the end of the article on page 16 does she finally use the word suicide. Dickson correctly calls out the community and the Department of Transportation to continue efforts to deter this final and deliberate act of desperation. To start, we need to agree that it is a willful act, not the accidental fall suggested by her text. Our shared purpose must be to help those who suffer find relief.
