The American people have been misled by government officials on the state of our economy. The federal government reported a record month for employment as more people found employment in November and December claiming the economy has turned around. They forgot to mention that it was seasonable employment for Christmas.
President Bush claimed manufacturing jobs increased under his administration; that was only after he made hamburger-making a manufacturing job. President Obama says the number of fully employed people has increased. The president’s administration labels workers working 30 hours a week as full-time employees. That’s how full time employment increased under President Obama.
Look no further than Christmas retail sales to see our economy hasn’t improved. Retail sales were not very good. The number of unemployed and underemployed had a tremendous undertow on our economy because people can’t pay their bills working 30 hours a week and couldn’t spend much in this economy in December. After Black Friday, many stores still had plenty of loss leaders that didn’t sell out. That wasn’t because stores were overstocked.
With gas prices lower the government says consumers will enjoy an extra $1,400 to spend in the economy. The government clearly hasn’t looked at food prices lately because that’s where the savings from lower fuel costs is going. People don’t need hope they need help, they need a full-time 40-hours-a-week job to pay their grocery bill, not a full time cheerleader giving misleading speeches.
