State employees only want fair treatment in budget

State employees only ask to be treated as fairly as the members of the state Legislature themselves. They are only asking for their first COLA increase in over 7 years.

Too often state employees are demonized by a small group of Washington state legislators and out-of-state agitators, who attempt to disparage hardworking and honest citizens doing a very tough job with very little resources. We have gained over a million new citizens in Washington over the last couple of years but have thousands of fewer state employees to serve our state’s growing needs.

Public employees are not what is breaking Washington’s budget. Chipping away at their pay and benefits is not going to balance Washington’s budget. Our Legislature approving the contracts the unions and the governor agreed to is the right thing to do and will help pump much needed revenue back into our local economies.
