Weekend Getaway: Bill Burby Run

Bill Burby Run

The 29th running of the Bill Burby 10K and 5K Fun Runs is held in conjunction with the Vashon Island Strawberry Festival. The run is named for the festival co-founder who died in 1989 of a heart attack. A 5K walk is also available.

When: Saturday, 9 a.m.

Where: Vashon Island YMCA at the corner of Vashon Highway and Gorsuch Road.

Getting there: Take the ferry from Point Defiance Park to Vashon Island, then follow Vashon Highway to the YMCA.

Cost: $25

Of note: Proceeds from the race go to the Vashon Island High School athletic programs and the Vashon Community Scholarship Program. The 5K records are 16:20 for men and 19:20 for women. The 10K records are 33:36 for men and 37:01 for women.
