Saturday: If you don’t have time to fish for salmon, you can still celebrate the species at the Squaxin Island Salmon Fest. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature salmon barbecue, live music, traditional native dancers, native storytelling, fun activities for children, native and fine art vendors.
Sunday: Join the guided walk at Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. The topic of the 1 p.m. walk will be the Medicine Creek Treaty. This is an easy walk along flat trails. Meet at the visitor center flag pole.
All weekend: If you’re headed to Ocean Shores, take time to visit the Ocean Shores Interpretive Center at 1033 Catala Ave. S.E. Open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekends, the center features a Habitat Room, outdoor exhibits, children’s area and history on the SS Catala.
