Boats Afloat filled with tours, lessons

The 32nd annual Lake Union Boats Afloat Show will open Wednesday and feature more than 200 new and used watercraft. Boats will range from 20 feet to 118 feet in length. Organizers claim the shows is the West Coast’s largest floating show.

Among the attractions at this year’s show:

 • Tour the Sea Star from the Emmy-nominated television series “Deadliest Catch.” The tours, which cost $1, are led by the cast and crew of the show.

 • Free daily sailboat rides on Lake Union through Discover Sailing

 • Free 90-minute sailing lessons for kids ages 8 to 16 on a 13-foot Hobie Cat Waves courtesy of Sail Sandpoint. Lessons will be available Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m., 1, 3 and 5 p.m. and weekdays at 4 p.m. To sign up go to www.boatsafloatshow.com.

To help ease traffic and parking congestion, e-ticket holders can ride the Seattle Streetcar to and from the Boats Afloat Show for free. E-tickets are available at www.BoatsAfloatShow.com.

The boat show runs through Sept. 20 and is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for kids younger than 18 and free for kids younger than 12. Multi-day passes are $18.
