All weekend: A week's worth of big storms, high winds and massive surf make this a great weekend for beachcombing - if the weather calms down. Interesting treasures wait on the sand for those who visit coastal beaches after storms. But be sure to stay away from the water - nothing is worth risking a life - and never turn your back on the ocean. Low tide is the best time to go.
All weekend: The Kennedy Creek Salmon Trail, just off U.S. 101 between Olympia and Shelton, is a great place to see thousands of spawning chum salmon. The trail is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 360-412-0808 or visit www.spsseg.org.
All weekend: Check out thousands of ducks and other waterfowl that are taking a break on Capitol Lake from their southward migration. Binoculars or spotting scopes make a good view even better.
