Three groups are leading a volunteer work party to help restore a former gravel mine site on Maury Island.
People For Puget Sound, King County Parks and Recreation and Friends of Maury Island Marine Park are sponsoring the Saturday event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Maury Island Marine Park. Participants will work to remove invasive weeds such as blackberry and Scotch broom.
The event is for people of all ages, but children ages 10 and younger must have one-to-one adult supervision. The work will take place rain or shine, so dress for the weather. Volunteers should wear sturdy, waterproof foot gear, long trousers and long sleeves. Bring a water bottle, lunch and your own work gloves if you have them. The groups will provide gloves for those who don’t have them and tools, snacks and water.
