Members of the National Wild Turkey Federation will give a free wild turkey calling and hunting clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Cabela's in Lacey.
Participants will have the chance to learn the basics of locating, calling and hunting wild turkeys. Among the topics to be covered are the subspecies found in Washington, hunting seasons, wild turkey biology and their main defenses, what weapons to use, what accessories are necessary and how to use them more effectively; camo clothing and gear, scouting for success; and tactics and strategies.
The clinic will be presented by members of the federation’s Narrows Strut Busters Chapter. Chapter members will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to answer questions. Tickets will be available for the ninth annual Hunters Heritage Banquet, gun raffles and a state Department of Fish and Wildlife turkey tag raffle. For more about the federation or the chapter, go to www.gigharbronwtf.org or contact chapter president Al Prante at 253-884-9663 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
