Northwest Garlic Festival

WHAT: While some communities hold festivals to celebrate the garlic that grows in their area, this will be the 34th year the people of Ocean Park celebrate their love for garlic with this annual event. The event is sponsored by the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce.

WHEN: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 20 and 10 am.-4 p.m. June 21.

WHERE: Wilson Field, 25813 Sandridge Road, Ocean Park.

ALL ABOUT GARLIC: Specialty food and craft vendors will offer all types of dishes featuring garlic, including ice cream. Other vendors also will be on hand selling a variety of garlic-based products including bird houses, wind chimes, pottery, soap, jewelrey and art.

HISTORY: The event began as a small festival in 1982, started by chefs Jimella Lucas and Nanci Main, who at that time were owners of the Ark Restaurant in Nachotta.

WHILE THERE: While in the area for the festivals, visitors can check out the 28 miles of sandy beaches of the Long Beach Peninsula, visit the various units of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and Leadbetter Point State Park.
