A new trail is opening near Wenatchee, extending the Apple Capital Loop Trail

Washington State Parks will celebrate the opening of a new trail in eastern Washington Thursday.

The Rocky Reach Trail near East Wenatchee will open with party at 5:30 p.m. The trail is located at Lincoln Rock State Park, 13253 state Route 2 E.

The celebration at the soccer fields near the trailhead will include speakers from state and local government and members of the Complete the Loop Coalition. Refreshments will be served and the local transit company will offer bus tours of the trail for people with disabilities.

The trail is a 5-mile non-motorized trail. It is paved and designed for multiple uses include bikes and connects to the Apple Capital Loop Trail.

The project has been in the works for 20 years and cost $3.75 million. The project was funded with grants from Chelan County and donation from the coalition.

The Apple Capital Loop Trail gives pedestrians and cyclists access to downtown Wenatchee and crosses the Columbia River to East Wenatchee. It already visits four parks, the Columbia River and Pybus Market, but biking north to Lincoln Rock State Park previously required riding on Route 2.
