Two-day winter steelhead fly fishing clinic scheduled

The staff at Gig Harbor Fly Shop will be teaching a two-day winter steelhead fly fishing clinic later this month that includes a day of fishing on the Olympic Peninsula.

The clinic begins Jan. 28 with a session at the shop to discuss line types, leaders, tippet, flies, as well as techniques and tactics. The session will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The group will then meet Jan. 30 in Forks to fish some of the Olympic Coast rivers and work on techniques. Participants will focus on how to read the water, swinging fly presentation and nymphing. Tactics for single hand rods as well as two hand switch rods and spey rods will be covered. This session will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $95 a person.

Staffers recommend participants spend a night in Forks since it is a 3- to 4-hour drive from the South Sound.
