Geoducks let big lead slip away at nationals

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - After leading by as many as 15 points, The Evergreen State College men's basketball team lost to eighth-seeded Embry-Riddle, 80-78, Wednesday in the first round of the NAIA Division II men's basketball tournament.

Evergreen led 12-0 and extended a 48-35 halftime lead to 50-35 early in the second half.

Embry-Riddle’s Eric Lorenzi tied the game, 70-70, on a pair of free throws with 4:46 remaining and scored with less than 30 seconds left to put the Eagles up for good, 78-77.

Nate Menefee led Evergreen with 26 points. Guard Josh Troyer added 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting. Anthony Gallaher and Julio Feliciano scored 12 points each.

Embry-Riddle (29-5), which got 27 points from David Butler, shot 53 percent in the second half after shooting 34 percent in the first.

Evergreen, which grabbed the 11th and final at-large berth to qualify for the 32-team tournament, finished the season 19-11.

Oregon Tech defeated Judson, 63-57, in its first-round game.
