Los Angeles Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said he didn't consider any Seattle Sounders for the Major League Soccer All-Star roster because of a scheduling conflict.
No Sounders were voted onto the MLS All-Star First XI, which was announced last week, and none were among the 13 players added Monday by Arena and the MLS commissioner.
They complete the 24-man roster for the July 24 game against Manchester United at Houston’s Reliant Stadium.
Seattle will open CONCACAF Champions League play that night at Qwest Field against Isidro Metapan of El Salvador.
Sounders are eligible for the eight-man All-Star “inactive roster,” which will be announced next Monday.
“There will be, my guess, some Seattle Sounders players who will be All-Stars,” Arena said in a conference call. “However, it was virtually impossible for them to play or participate in this game because they have a very important Champions League game. … We had to take all of that into consideration.”
Seattle, San Jose and Kansas City are not represented on the MLS All-Star team.
Former Sounders midfielder Sebastien Le Toux was among the 11 players added by Arena. And Le Toux – who played in Seattle last season before being taken by Philadelphia in the expansion draft – also was honored Monday as MLS player of the week for his goal and assist in the Union’s 2-1 win over Toronto.
Garber’s All-Star selections were D.C. United forward Jamie Moreno and Houston forward Brian Ching, who previously played at Gonzaga and with the USL Sounders.
