Jaguars WR Osgood attacked

Jacksonville receiver Kassim Osgood leapt out a second-floor window to escape a gun-wielding man who attacked him and a 19-year-old Jaguars cheerleader, according to police.

The armed intruder exchanged gunfire with his ex-girlfriend, Mackenzie Rae Putnal, after putting a gun to her head Monday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s report, Osgood, 30, sustained some minor bruises during the attack and while fleeing.

Julian Armond Bartletto, 20, of Jacksonville, was arrested on charges of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, armed robbery, burglary and violation of an injunction. He was being held without bond at the Duval County Jail.

The Jaguars declined comment on Putnal. The team has a rule forbidding cheerleaders from dating players.

The NFL received its highest grade ever for racial diversity hiring practices but is behind on hiring women.

The annual report card by The Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport at the University of Central Florida gave the NFL its first “A” on racial hiring practices in 18 years. The high mark was in large part because of sustained progress hiring black coaches, the effectiveness of the “Rooney Rule” requiring a minority to be interviewed and the creation of a vice president and chief diversity officer in the league office.

The NFL earned a “C” for gender hiring and an overall grade of “B” – the same mark as last year.
