Guests and staff at the Little Creek Casino Hotel in Shelton watched in horror Sunday as a 24-year-old woman plummeted five stories inside the atrium and landed on the lobby floor. She later died of her injuries.
The woman was not immediately identified.
Mason County sheriff’s deputies looked at the surveillance video and said there was no foul play involved.
“The video told us she fell over (the railing) and there was no one around her,” Mason County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dean Byrd said.
Officers wouldn’t speculate on whether it was a suicide. Byrd said it would be days before they could determine if alcohol was involved or if the woman lost her balance for some reason.
“We’re going to be looking at toxicology reports to determine if that (alcohol) or narcotics was involved in this horrible situation,” Byrd said. “We’re going through the investigation step by step, analyzing the evidence we’ve found, talking to witnesses and that sort of thing.”
The woman plunged to the lobby floor about 11:15 a.m., Byrd said. She was transported to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where she died.
