With an equipment back slung over his left shoulder, Ryan Braun went back to work with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.
The National League MVP had his 50-game suspension for a positive drug test overturned earlier this week. He and his teammates held their first full-squad spring training practice in Phoenix.
The workout was welcomed relief for Braun, who was emotional Friday as he vehemently defended his innocence following his exoneration by an arbitrator. On his way out to a back practice field, Braun passed fans who yelled “Atta boy, MVP” and “Keep your head up.” Braun smiled and said thank you.
Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the team will ban alcohol in the clubhouse for the upcoming season.
The move comes in the wake of last season’s September collapse that included reports of Boston starting pitchers drinking beer in the clubhouse on days they didn’t pitch.
It’s one of a handful of new rules that Valentine is imposing in his first season as manager.
When asked how the players reacted, Valentine said that there were no standing ovations and no jeers.

Alex Rodriguez said he’s feeling healthy this spring and is giving a lot of credit to a special treatment suggested by NBA star Kobe Bryant.
The New York Yankees’ third baseman had surgery on his right knee in July and saw his power drop in the second half and postseason.
The 36-year-old Rodriguez had plasma-rich platelet injections in his right knee and ailing left shoulder in December. The treatments were done in Germany following a recommendation by Bryant.
He also had an interesting offer for the Knicks’ Jeremy Lin, who spent the night before his breakout game sleeping on teammate Landry Field’s couch.
“If he’s still looking for a place to crash, maybe he can crash at my apartment,” Rodriguez said. “Imagine the tabloids then.”
Athletics infielder Scott Sizemore sprained his left knee during fielding drills, the first day of full squad workouts.… Joel Zumaya’s comeback bid with the Twins took a worrisome turn on when the reliever ended a throwing session early because of discomfort in his right elbow.
