Saints quarterback Drew Brees, former New Orleans linebacker Scott Fujita and players union head DeMaurice Smith were at the NFL offices in New York on Monday discussing the team’s bounty program.
Other issues also were being discussed with league executives, according to a person with knowledge of the meetings. The league would not comment on the meetings, which also included discussions of HGH testing.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to soon punish players for their roles in the program that got Saints coach Sean Payton suspended for 2012. Between 22 and 27 current and former Saints were involved, according to the league investigation.
The four former NFL players who sued the league Monday in Atlanta could be leading a wave of new lawsuits that cite the Saints’ bounty system for hard hits as evidence that pro football didn’t properly protect its players from concussions.
LIVE FROM NEW YORK!
Eli Manning, the New York Giants quarterback, will be the host for Saturday Night Live on May 5.
His brother, Peyton, did it in 2007 and had a memorable “United Way” skit in which he coached youngsters, hit them with passes in the back and stomach and even banished one to a portable toilet for 20 minutes.
