Bremerton’s Brittany Kwon captured the 59th annual Pacific Northwest Junior Girls Amateur on Thursday, defeating Bellevue’s Marianne Li, 1-up, in the match-play championship at Olympia Country and Golf Club.
Kwon, a 13-year-old, sank a birdie on the 448-yard, par-5 18th hole to finish 1-up after Li, an incoming senior at Bellevue’s Newport High and a University of California Berkeley golf commit, tied the match on the 142-yard, par-3 17th hole.
Both Kwon and Li easily won their Wednesday semifinal matches to reach Thursday’s final. Li won her final five holes to beat Alisha Lau of Richmond, B.C., 6 and 5, while Kwon birdied four of her final six holes against Michelle Kim of Surrey, B.C., to win 4 and 3.
